In 2021, the Tulip Festival will last seven weeks and will feature 145,000 tulips of 275 varieties. Numerous flower beds throughout the park are littered with bright spots of blooming tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other spring flowers of various shapes and inflorescences.
The 2021 festival of tulips in Morges will mark the anniversary for the “second time” – “50 bis”, as the events planned for 2020 have been postponed to this spring. The program includes the Sound & Light show, a walk in the park and, of course, the famous sale of tulip bulbs.
The first tulips begin to bloom in early April, and by the middle of the month the entire Independence Park in Morges turns into a multi-colored carpet of tulips of all shapes and colors.
The Tulip Festival was established in 1971 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Society of Gardeners of Lake Geneva. Following tradition, the students of the Morges horticultural center create several flower beds every year.
The Independence Park is a favorite vacation spot for city residents and numerous visitors from neighboring cities around Lake Geneva. It is located at the mouth of the Morges River, and its name recalls the events of 1898 – the proclamation of the independence of the canton of Vaud, which for several centuries was under the administrative control of Bern.
