The film was shot in Zermatt and New York last autumn. Switzerland Tourism invites you to an intimate conversation between two stars: Oscar winner Robert De Niro and tennis maestro Roger Federer. Federer wants De Niro to appear in his advertising film for Switzerland. De Niro refuses, because Switzerland may be lovely, impressive and fantastically beautiful, but there is neither danger nor drama here. Precisely those elements that are so central to De Niro’s work.
But in view of Covid-19, drama is what we currently want least of all – and so a film that was never made turns out to be a charming and self-deprecating advertisement for Switzerland. Because if you need a vacation without drama, you need Switzerland. Unless, of course, you’re Robert De Niro.
The film is the latest work by the Swiss agency Wirz BBDO, which is responsible for the entire campaign. It was staged by the Danish director Martin Werner and shot last autumn in Zermatt and New York, according to a press release.
In March of this year, Roger Federer announced his new role as ambassador for Switzerland Tourism ( persoenlich.com reported ). “To be able to advertise the country to which I owe so much and which has always been my home, makes me proud,” he is quoted in the message.
After its first prominent appearances, including on the famous billboards in Piccadilly Circus in London, this film is going around the world from today – about the country where you can relax to the max.
What makes Switzerland the perfect holiday destination is not only the spectacular and unspoilt landscapes, but also the short, easy and comfortable paths directly into nature. Relaxation and recharge your batteries are guaranteed. The campaign sums up this USP for the visitors: “If you really want to relax, if you really want to escape everyday life, if you really want to return to everyday life full of energy, if you want a vacation without drama, then you need more than Vacation. Then you need Switzerland. “
«Switzerland Tourism and Roger Federer are the perfect match. And Federer has been refueling his whole life in the Swiss countryside. That makes it a very authentic story ”, André Hefti, Head of Marketing & Productions at Switzerland Tourism, is quoted in the message.
IS DE NIRO COMING TO SWITZERLAND SOON?
There will be further joint projects in the future in collaboration with Roger Federer. The website is already up and running and visitors can discover personal recommendations and highlights from Federer. The variety of experiences presented here is great and ranges from relaxing and restful to exciting.
Even Robert De Niro could change his mind while scrolling through the images. When asked about this, he says: “I am excited to soon discover the natural beauties of Switzerland – perhaps together with Roger.” The campaign will be in use worldwide starting today, Tuesday.
