Ecological trips in Ticino and to Ticino

Ticino Turismo’s marketing campaign takes up the theme of sustainable mobility. Indeed, with the commissioning of the Ceneri base tunnel in December 2020, travel time by rail is shorter than by car, and this new rule applies both to travel to Ticino and to travel in the canton. “We have set ourselves the goal of becoming one of the first sustainable tourist destinations”, explains Angelo Trotta, Director of Ticino Turismo. “Support for sustainable mobility is a cornerstone of the tourist service chain.” Since the entry into service of the Ceneri base tunnel in December 2020, the train journey from Zurich to Lugano has taken less than two hours. This new link is also a tremendous leap forward for public transport in the region itself. Thus, there is now a Locarno-Lugano link in just 30 minutes, with a departure every half hour. Finally, at the same time, the canton is investing a total of 461 million Swiss francs for the development of public transport, in particular the bus network, for better intermodality in Ticino. “With this campaign, we want to present to our visitors the advantages of faster connections, and show them, in a charming light, through videos and photos, that reduced travel times, new bus connections , the reinforcement of frequencies, and the departures until the evening, will allow them to experience Ticino more intensely. holidaymakers can travel for free in the canton by bus and train thanks to the Ticino Ticket. One more reason to increase the number of day trips in the various valleys and the numerous places of the canton by using public transport, and by leaving his car during the holidays. “

The Gotthard train – Direct connections to Ticino from Zurich and Basel

Since the timetable change of December 2020, the Schweizerische Südostbahn AG (SOB) provides direct connections with the Gotthard train on the old Gotthard mountain line to Ticino. The train runs every hour, with alternate departures between Zurich and Basel, to the canton’s capital, Bellinzona, then, from April 5, 2021, to Locarno, on the shore of Lake Maggiore. Passengers travel in the new Traverso trainsets, adorned in their copper livery, grandiose with their 359 seats and panoramic windows. The journey through the first Gotthard tunnel, opened in 1882, to Airolo, the highest station in Switzerland, perched at 1,141 m sm, arouses both nostalgia and a feeling of calm. The journey then continues until to Bellinzona through Val Leventina, then to Lake Maggiore through the Magadino plain. With each kilometer traveled in the direction of the south, the air gets warmer, the mountains greener, and the coniferous forests of the Alps are gradually giving way to Mediterranean palm trees. The experiences to be had along the way are also part of the Gotthard train’s offer. SOB works in partnership with local service providers whose offers can be booked directly online. In this way, travelers can buy not only their train ticket there, but also, for example, an entrance ticket to a museum, or book a trip by cable car. the air is warmer, the mountains greener, and the coniferous forests of the Alps are gradually giving way to Mediterranean palm trees. The experiences to be had along the way are also part of the Gotthard train’s offer. SOB works in partnership with local service providers whose offers can be booked directly online. This allows travelers to buy not only their train ticket there, but also, for example, an entrance ticket to a museum, or book a trip by cable car. SOB works in partnership with local service providers whose offers can be booked directly online. In this way, travelers can buy not only their train ticket there, but also, for example, an entrance ticket to a museum, or book a trip by cable car. SOB works in partnership with local service providers whose offers can be booked directly online. This allows travelers to buy not only their train ticket there, but also, for example, an entrance ticket to a museum, or book a trip by cable car.www.trenogottardo.ch
