The US-based company The Gateway Foundation has unveiled the design of the world’s first space hotel, the Von Braun Space Station, Tim Alatorre, a senior space station designer, told Dezeen. The hotel is scheduled to open by 2025. The Gateway Foundation named the hotel after Werner von Braun, a space rocket designer who pioneered the idea of a spinning wheel orbital station back in the 1950s.
The Von Braun Space Station will be a wheel with a diameter of 190 meters. The project is based on technologies used by the International Space Station, however, unlike the ISS, gravity is provided on the Von Braun Space Station. The hotel will rotate and create a force of attraction similar to the gravity on the moon – this will allow you to navigate in space and make your stay comfortable.
The project provides for 24 living capsules that can accommodate up to 400 people. There will also be restaurants, bars, a cinema and halls for concerts and seminars. The company plans to receive up to 100 new visitors per week. Some modules will be leased to private individuals, others to the government for scientific purposes.
